"Ronald's willingness to support my vision and make a substantial investment in 1991 into my embryonic software company was critical to its initial success and fundamental to it becoming the global leader in its category resulting in a $160m trade sale some 10 years later."
Guy Haddleton, New Zealand
CEO Anaplan
"When Ronald shared what he had gone through I just stopped and stared. There was no indication in his speech, demeanor or physically that he had experienced a traumatic brain injury. Ronald is an inspiration."
Kimilie Levell
Founder, Heal the Family
Ronald specializes in helping people achieve success in three key areas:
Ronald brings an out of the box approach to all he does, and it's this that sits behind his ability to succeed in hugely challenging and wildly differing arenas. His unique perspective is largely informed by his own breakthrough experiences in two completely unrelated fields – business and recovery from traumatic brain injury.
During economic recession in the early 1990s, and against every bit of advice bar his own instincts, Ronald exchanged his secure job with leading accountancy firm Price Waterhouse to pursue an opportunity with a UK software start-up that needed venture capital.
Taking on a dual role as an investor and Marketing Director, Ronald helped set up the foundations that would lead to Adaytum’s international growth and eventual sale to US software giant Cognos for $160M a decade later, realizing huge returns for both its owner and shareholders.
Ronald's entrepreneurial flare is underpinned by a classical training, including a BA in Finance and Accounting from Newcastle University, an MBA from the University of Western Australia, as well as a commercial grounding in accountancy from Price Waterhouse.
In the prime of his business career, at just 29 years old, Ronald sustained a traumatic brain injury. Abruptly, his life was turned upside down. Facing the dismal prospect of a severely limited life, he set about refocusing his energy into how he could influence his own brain and make a full recovery.
That recovery process took six years to regain previous levels of brain function, and is remarkable because the scientific understanding of the brain at the time was in conflict with Ronald's own belief that he could get better. He therefore understands at a very profound level how commitment, focus and a lateral approach can win through most challenges, even when facing very great odds.
Ronald's journey to recover marked the start of a lifetime’s quest for personal growth and development that includes yoga, meditation, numerous physical therapies as well as horse riding as some of the keystones through which he retrained his brain.
Ronald is passionate about helping other people with both the strategic and practical support that would have so accelerated his own journey to succeed.
